Instruction for Authors

Ethics in publishing

Authors must adhere to the ethical guidelines, and any cases of misconduct will be addressed following the step-by-step process outlined in the COPE Flowcharts (https://publicationethics.org/resources/flowcharts).

Open Access Licence

Souphanouvong University Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Development (SUJMRD) is an open-access journal. Users may freely distribute, copy, or include the open-access content from this journal in a collective work (such as an anthology) for non-commercial purposes, provided that the following conditions are met: (1) appropriate credit is given to the author(s) with a link to the formal publication through the relevant DOI, and (2) a link to the license is provided.

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND) (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/), which permits sharing and reproduction in any medium for non-commercial purposes, as long as the original work is properly cited and remains unchanged.

I. Publication and Peer Review Processes

a) The submitted manuscripts for publication in the SUJMRD is judged by the members of the editorial board. The editor-in-chief has full responsibility for the papers submitted, which are evaluated in the order received.

b) At the initial stage, the editor-in-chief may ask co-editor-in-chief to evaluate submitted manuscripts for suitability for further review. A reviewer may not be from the same institution as the author. Reviewers should examine the paper and return it with their report to the editor-in-chief as soon as possible, usually within 30 days.

c) The identity and the report of the reviewers are made known to the editor-in-chief, but only the anonymous report is routinely sent to the author. The anonymity of the reviewers is preserved unless it is desired otherwise by all parties involved.

d) Each manuscript that is deemed suitable will be evaluated by at least two members of the editorial board or other scientifically qualified reviewers and/or blind reviewers.

e) The editor-in-chief handles all correspondence with the author and makes the final decision as to whether the paper is recommended for acceptance or rejection, or needs to be returned to the author for revision.

f) Papers needing revision will be returned to the corresponding author, and the author must return the revised manuscript to the editor-in-chief within 30 days; otherwise, the author will be notified that the paper has been withdrawn. The editor-in-chief may send the revised manuscript to co-editor-in-chief to examine whether the manuscript has been revised as suggested by the reviewers.

g) The reviewer recommends acceptance, acceptance after revision, resubmission after revision, or rejection. If both reviewers recommend acceptance or rejection, the decision stands. When their opinions differ, then the editor-in-chief may ask a third reviewer or co-editor-in-chief to decide on the acceptance or rejection of that paper.

h) If a paper is not suitable for publication, the corresponding author will be notified with a statement of reasons for rejection. The author may appeal if s/he believes an erroneous or unfair judgment has been made. A letter to the editor-in-chief presenting reasons why the decision should be reconsidered will be given due consideration.

i) Most papers that eventually are published are first returned for revision. Common reasons for requesting revision are failure to follow style and form, lack of clarity or brevity, questions of fact or theory, poor organization of tabular material, and poor English.

II. Editorial independence

Editorial independence should be respected. Journal owners (both learned societies and publishers) should not interfere with editorial decisions. The relationship between the editor and the journal owner and publisher should be set out in a formal contract and an appeal mechanism for disputes should be established.

III. Plagiarism and copyright

Journal editors and readers have a right to expect that submitted work is the author's own, that it has not been plagiarized (i.e. taken from other authors without permission, if permission is required) and that copyright has not been breached (for instance, figures or tables are reproduced).

IV.  Protecting intellectual property

Journal owners and authors have a right to protect their intellectual property.

V. Peer reviewer conduct and intellectual property

Authors are entitled to expect that peer reviewers or other individuals privy to the work an author submits to a journal will not steal their research ideas or plagiarize their work.

VI. Article Processing Charge (APC)

There is no submission fee. For information on article-processing charge for papers accepted for publication, see the official approval of SU Council (refer. No. 15/SU, date 9th Jan 2024) on the publication fee in the following table:

7.2. The journal is published biannual since 2015 by Souphanouvong University (publisher).

7.3. Manuscripts should be written in a clear, concise, and direct style so that they are intelligible to the professional reader who is not a specialist in the particular field.

7.4. The only manuscripts acceptable are original research articles (regular papers) that have not been previously published elsewhere, except in a preliminary form (abstract, thesis, poster, oral presentation, etc…).

VIII. SUBMISSION OF A MANUSCRIPT

8.1. Submitted manuscript should not occupy more than 12 Journal pages (section III).

8.2. In general, terms should not be abbreviated unless they are used repeatedly and the abbreviation is helpful to the reader. Initially use the word in full, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. Thereafter use the abbreviation only.

8.3. The sections such as: 1. Introduction, 2. Materials and Methods, 3. Results , 4. Discussion, 5. Conclusion, 6. Conflict of Interest, 7. Acknowledgment, and 8. References, should be numbered consecutively with only the first letter capitalized in bold-faced print (Sub-titles should be divided by “1, 1.1., 1.1.1.”).

8.4. Manuscripts must be prepared in a single file of Microsoft Office Word and submitted into the the website of SU jounal (www.su-journal.com).

8.5. Submitted manuscripts are acceptable in both English and Lao languages. For the article written in Lao language, the following sections: 1) The title, 2) Authors & affiliation, 3) Abstract and 4) Keywords must be submitted in English.

2.6. Manuscripts must be prepared in single space (1 line spacing) with one column. Both before and after spacing must be 6pt. A4 size with 2 cm margin on both sides of the page is desirable. Using font size of 12pt for unspecified font size in the section III.

IX. STRUCTURE OF MANUSCRIPTS

9.1. Title (14pt): The first page of each manuscript starts with the title of the paper which should be typed in bold-faced print with the first letter of key-terms are capitalized and set in the center of the page (For example: Impact of Media on the Quality of Teaching)

- Abbreviations are not permitted in the title (Except scientific terms, e.g: DNA, RNA, H5N1, etc).

 The names of the authors: Following the title should be the full name of authors (12pt in bold). The address of the institution (11pt in italics) where the research was conducted follows and the address should be included.

 Corresponding author: Clearly indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing, publication, and post-publication and give the affiliation address, telephone number, fax and email address in 11pt in italics.

9.2. Abstract: The abstract should state briefly the purpose of study; experimental treatments used; results obtained, preferably with quantitative data; significance of findings; conclusions; implications of results if appropriate. The abstract should be clear, descriptive and not longer than 300 words. References should be avoided. Non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided, but if essential they must be defined at their first mention in the abstract itself.

 Keywords: Immediately after the abstract, provide a maximum of 5 keywords, avoiding general and plural terms, multiple concepts and abbreviations (avoid, for example, 'and', 'of'). The term "Keywords" is typed in bold-faced print followed by a colon.

9.3. Introduction: The introduction starts following the abstract. The introduction briefly justifies the research and specifies the hypotheses to be tested. Extensive discussion of relevant literature should be included in the discussion of results, not in the introduction.

9.4. Materials and Methods: The statistical model, classes, blocks, and experimental unit must be designated. Any restrictions used in estimating parameters should be defined. Levels of statistical significance which can be mentioned without further explanation are *p< 0.05, **p< 0.01 and ***p< 0.001.

9.5. Results: Results should be presented in tabular form when feasible. The text should explain or elaborate on the tabular data, but numbers should not be repeated extensively within the text. Sufficient data, all with some index of variation attached, should be presented to allow the reader to interpret the results of the experiment.

9.6. Discussion: The discussion should interpret the results clearly and concisely and should integrate results of the literature survey with the research findings, to provide the reader with a broad base on which to accept or reject the hypotheses tested. Results and references to tables and figures already described in the Results section should not be repeated in the Discussion section.

3.7. Conclusion: This section, consisting of no more than 300 words, follows the discussion and should explain in lay terms, without abbreviations, acronyms, or citations, what the findings of this research imply for that field. Though some speculation is permitted, this section should also caution the reader against over extrapolation of results.

9.8. Conflict of Interest: We certify that there is no conflict of interest with any financial organization regarding the material discussed in the manuscript.

9.9. Acknowledgments: Optional You are requested to identify who provided financial support for the conduct of the research (if, any).
